A dominant second half display ensured a thumping win for Bonnyton U20s in their friendly
match with Whitletts U20s on Friday night.

After an opening period which had flattered to deceive, a tremendous strike from Nathan
Ferguson opened the floodgates for the hosts, who added a further three goals courtesy of
William Bowie, Callum Fyfe and Blair Phillips to put the icing on the cake.

Not long after the second half restart, the Ton found themselves with a rare pocket of space
inside the Whitletts half, which they took full advantage of; Ferguson collected the ball 25
yards from goal, allowed it bobble in front of him and spanked a terrific half volley into the
top corner via the post.

It was a goal which brought a previously uneventful game to life, with neither side’s
attempts at playing positive football having yielded much by way of goalmouth action in the
first half.

Bonnyton managed to double the advantage around 20 minutes later; a clever chop inside
from substitute Phillips drew a free-kick right on the edge of the area, with disastrous
consequences for the visitors and their man between the sticks.

The dead ball was drilled low towards goal by Bowie, but was heading straight down
the goalkeeper’s throat – a stroke of misfortune hit though, as the ball squirmed out of his
grip, slipped between his legs and rolled in for a second Ton goal.

That seemed to embolden the home side, who began to dominate proceedings and carve
out several more opportunities as the clock ticked towards the last minutes and the match
wound down.

That was until the Ton struck twice in quick succession thanks to fine work by more of their
substitutes, adding to their advantage and putting a gloss to the scoreline which underlined
their second half dominance.

First, Tommy Lloyd chased down a searching ball into the right channel and just about
reached it to deliver a floated cross to the back post, where Fyfe was waiting to head
home a poacher’s effort, before thanking his team-mate for the excellent service.

Just one minute later, they managed to squeeze another one in before the referee’s final
whistle, with Fyfe once again at the heart of it.

The attacker was hot on the heels of a backtracking Whitletts defender and got a stroke of
luck as the attempted clearance deflected off him and sent him racing away in behind,
where he delivered a similar ball to that which he himself had profited from one minute
prior, this time setting up Phillips for an equally easy finish.

The Young Ton will look to carry momentum from this magnificent win into their upcoming
matches.
