Bonnyton Thistle made it two Player Data League Cup wins over Cumnock Juniors in a row
on Friday night, easing to a 3-0 home win with some impressive goals.

Having beaten the same opponents 3-2 away last week, the Ton made a quick start in their
attempt at back-to-back victories, as the opening goal came after just five minutes.

Goalkeeper Bradley Bain sent a long ball over the top after coming under pressure in his
own box, with striker Callum Fyfe quick to latch onto it after the bounce beat the Cumnock
defender, before he slid the ball under the onrushing keeper.

The visitors had made a bright and direct start prior to that, attempting to get their striker in
behind within the opening seconds and testing Bain from range after just two minutes.

The opening goal did little to settle the Ton down in truth, and Bain again had to intervene
and save with his legs when a loose pass sent the Cumnock striker running in on goal.

After a frantic opening ten minutes, Bonnyton seemed to settle more into the game, taking
control and frustrating their opponents with composed possession play.

The best chances were still falling the way of the visitors though; Reece Bryden was forced
to put a cross behind from near his own goalline, and Bain was called upon twice more,
again keeping the score at 1-0 with his legs – the equaliser never came for Cumnock though,
and they were made to pay at the start of the second half.

Nathan Ferguson had been kept mostly quiet in the opening 45 minutes, but it took him just
two to produce magic in the second; picking the ball up on halfway, he breezed past two challenges and drove for goal, ghosting past the centre-back and sitting the keeper down, going round him to tap in a simple finish to a wonderful goal.

Ferguson’s teammates were rightly quick to congratulate him on the worldy, whilst it
seemed to suck the life out of Cumnock and put an end to their resistance.

Bonnyton were in control from then on, and twice came close to adding to their lead, only
for brilliant crosses from Luke Bolton and Blair Phillips to evade everyone in the box.

Charlie Farrell was determined to make things happen, narrowly having his long-range effort
tipped over and then only just missing Callum Fyfe, who could have had a hat-trick on
another day, with a whipped delivery.

Eventually the Ton did grab their third; mere minutes from time, Ruiaridh Thompson walked
onto a layoff on the edge of the area and slotted a cool finish into the bottom corner to
emphasise his side’s superiority.

The win will stand Bonnyton in good stead, as they seek to make it out of their Player Data
League Cup group.
